The Doors of Perception – The story behind a door – WordPress Discover Challenge

“If the doors of perception were cleansed
every thing would appear to man as it is… Infinite.”
(William Blake – The Marriage o Heaven and Hell)

The story behind a door… I came across this topic today while I was checking the WordPress Discover Challenge on my reader. Suddenly I felt flooded with memories of many years ago. Other music, other books… I was able to see in my mind my old bedroom, with the two orange walls, the paintings, and the posters, the bookshelf… I remember I had a poster of a painting from José Tola, a well-known Peruvian artist, signed by himself. It said: “Para Mónica, que los lagos del deseo no crucen aquellos cielos que no tenemos.” It would be something like “That the lakes of desire do not cross those heavens we do not have.” or at least that’s what I think…

I was studying art back then and listening to The Doors non-stop. And that’s how I found them (because the name of the band comes from William Blake’s quote), a couple of books that were so revealing and inspiring at that time: The Marriage of Heaven and Hell by William Blake, The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley (here in Spanish) and The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire. I think of them now as a little “dark” readings, but I also think that they opened a door to creativity in a way that I haven’t felt again. It was different times, a different life, different doors to go through… I have changed in so many ways, in so many others I’m the same…

I had forgotten to visit that place lost in my mind. I’m glad I found only the best of it while sneaking again through the doors of perception.
